Moving with the times

MoverAlerts were excited to attend this year’s BAR Young Movers 2023 Conference. Marlon and Dean headed up to Liverpool to network with some of the industry’s best. The BAR Young Movers conference is open to individuals under 40 who are BAR Members or Affiliates. Relaunched in 2017, it aims to foster education, networking, and social interaction among young professionals in the removals industry.

These types of events are so important to keep the removal industry thriving. It’s great to see the next generation working their way up the ranks and promoting removals as a rewarding career for all ages. Directors and owners of removal companies can gain valuable insights from the younger generation in the industry, just as the next generation can glean knowledge from their more experienced counterparts. This exchange of perspectives can spark a generation of fresh ideas.

There aren’t only some great learnings to be gained from the conference, but it also throws in two nights of fun social events! Live band, The Tempest, kicked off proceedings as Marlon and Dean made the rounds chatting with both familiar and new faces.

Loading up on industry insight

The next day was jam-packed with business sessions including Dave Verburg from Maguire Training. He discussed personality types and which ones may pose a challenge to work with. Laura Moxham, a BAR Affiliate, discussed Google Ads and pointed out that despite the seasonality of the industry, actually people search for removals year-round. She highlighted that cold calling isn’t necessary and, actually, the way to win leads is to offer differentiation from your competitors through reviews, reliability and reputation. Ultimately, working on your brand is far more effective than cold calling. Networking is absolutely key for removals so the, ‘How to become a great networker,’ session came in handy... especially for the networking session later in the day!

Packing a punch

The conference, as always, is a fantastic opportunity to encourage and support the under-40s in the industry. The event finished with, what else but, a Beatles-inspired tour and live music. Guests had a chance to check out Beatles memorabilia such as their outfits and instruments. The MoverAlerts team had a fantastic time and enjoyed the enthusiasm and energy of everyone in attendance.
